Upwas Thalipeeth Recipe

Upwas Thalipeeth – Learn how to prepare this traditional Maharashtrian dish

Upwas Thalipeeth , the way I prepare is a bit different. I use a mix of Sabudana, Upwas Bhajani and grated sweet potato to prepare this.

Upwas Thalipeeth

Typically prepared during fasting festivals like Navratri, Ekadashi, Mahashivratri, etc. it is widely popular in Maharashtra.

I normally prepare it for regular evening snacks , preferring to eat with a piping hot cup of ginger tea.

I prepare the Upwas Bhajani by following below method :

1.  Dry roast 0.5 cup Sabudana

2.  Dry roast 1.5 cup Varai Tandul

3.  Dry roast 1 Cup Rajgira

4.  Dry roast 2 TBSp Cumin Seeds / Jeera

4.  Cool down all flours and grind them in grinder in a fine powder

5. Add 1 Cup of water chestnut flour

6. Mix everything and the Upwas Bhajani is ready

This bhajani suffices me for a month if I prepare the Thalipeeths for 2 people once in a fortnight.

Since my version a combination of both regular upwas thalipeeth and sabudana thalipeeth it gives the best of both recipes.

The thalipeeth is quite a delicacy , crispy and crunchy. I am sure after preparing them and savoring them, you will fall in love with them and crave for them time and again. We prefer to eat it with Cucumber raita and Coriander Coconut Chutney.

Upwas Thalipeeth
Instructions
  1. Mix all the ingredients in water to form a soft ball. Divide the ball in 2 parts
  2. Take a flat bottomed tawa, grease it with ghee, flatten out the small balls into a roti like structure. Pinch one hole in middle and 6-8 holes on the sides. Ensure the thickness of thalipeeth is not very fine as it might become very crunchy
  3. On a medium flame, cover and cook on one side. Once the water from lid starts dropping on the tawa, remove the cover. Flip the thalipeeth and cook without cover
  4. Serve with Cucumber Raita and Coconut Coriander Chutney. Upwas Thalipeeth (my style) is ready
