Sushila – A quick snack recipe

Imagine one day, you soak puffed rice instead of thick poha for breakfast in that bout of morning rush madness. What follows is the सुसला or सुशीला (Susla / Sushila)  – a quick snack recipe☺️

Traditionally prepared in Maharashtra, Solapur side , Sushila is a healthy recipe for all age groups.

Ingredients (Serves 2) :

250 gm puffed rice
2 TBSP coarse powder of roasted Chana / Pandharpuri Daala / Phutane
4 TBSP Roasted Peanut Powder
2 finely chopped onions
1 sprig of curry leaves
1tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp hing
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 chopped green chilly / 1 tsp red chilly powder
2 tbsp Oil
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste
1 TBSP chopped coriander
Grated raw mango (Optional) / 1tsp lemon juice

Recipe:

1. Soak the puffed rice for 10 min.

2. In a kadhai , prepare the tadka using oil. After oil is heated add mustard. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, add hing, curry leaves, chillies / chilly powder.

3. Add the chopped onions and saute till they become soft. Add turmeric at this stage to prevent it from burning.
I added some walnuts and raisins this time for a twist of taste.

4. While the onions cook, drain the puffed rice and lightly press to remove excess water.

5. Add the puffed rice to the cooked onions and lightly mix together.

6. Add the powdered peanut and pandharpuri daala along with salt and sugar.

7. Mix everything and cook for 5 -10 min.

8. Sprinkle some chopped coriander.

9. Serve with a dash of lemon juice / garnished with shredded raw mango

Try Sushila this weekend instead of the usual bhel and let me know if you liked it.

Till Next Time, Bon Appetite,
