Monterrey Memoirs – Week 2

Week two evenings were filled with exploring Monterrey and Mexican history. We visited Santa Lucia River walk. It is an artificial river that runs through the city for almost 3.5 kms connecting the Fundidora Park and Macroplaza. It has open gyms, gardens, playgrounds, restaurants etc. on both sides of the river and one can walk or ride a cycle along the river. It was nice to see folks enjoying quiet time with their loved ones and keeping fit by jogging or cycling along the river. We took a boat ride one way and walked back. It was one of the most beautiful walks I had amidst the city in a long time.

At Macroplaza, the museum of Mexican History is located. It covers the Aztec, Mayan and Spanish civilizations related details. The museum does a perfect job of laying out Mexico’s history in a way that is easy to understand, even for someone who doesn’t speak the language. The exhibits are well-done, and well-lit. Got to see a movie capturing historical events in Mexico and around the world during last 5-6 decades. A Mayan number and date system, the Mayan pyramids and the logic behind the way some of them were built was interesting to see. Outside the Macroplaza one can see lot of Government buildings and beautiful architecture work. There was a nice instrumental music playing in the background.

We spent a nice evening interacting with few other ex-colleagues from work and learning about their interests. I connected with M on a lot of things related to movies. It was super cool to know we both loved the Rocky Series. M told me to watch the latest one in the series called “Creed”. Guess what??? I watched it on my flight back to Pune. Feeling awesome. We spent some time driving around downtown with few lanes reminding of Hong Kong Lane or Tulsi baug in Pune. The last week day evening was spent roaming around in the mall buying a nice casual jacket.

Week two work days were filled with lots of theory, demos, practical experiences and Q&A. The training was interactive, fun filled with lot of information exchange. It’s amazing how much we learn when we share knowledge. At the end of the last day, few of my colleagues gave us some sweets to take back home which was overwhelming. I realized I have a natural flair for training and am quite good at it. It was one of the most satisfying experiences I had and one which gave me more than what I had expected. To sum up the entire experience I would say, “The climate was hot, the people warm and the experience super cool. I went to meet my colleagues and bid farewell to friends”. With promises to stay in touch and meet again I left Monterrey but a part of my heart is there in the city and with the people I met.
